Tithe your IRS Rebate ...
As was mentioned in the May newsletter, Council is inviting members of the congregation to join them in tithing the IRS Economic Stimulus Rebate. How and where is is entirely up to you. Suggestions include nonprofit social ministry agencies, needy families, St. Luke-related missions and ministries, ELCA-related ministries, and other benevolent organizations. The point is to take an unexpected blessing and turn part of it into a blessing to others. (Note-- for some good ideas about where to donate, see the chart in the narthex that shows where some of us have already donated. The chart will remain on display through July.)
DIAPERS, Already!
The Diaper Deadline has been extended to August 3. If you have not already done so,
PLEASE bring in some diapers for Pregnancy Ministries. Those babies need diapers!
And we don't want to let Pastor Beth down, just because she's not here, by not reaching our goal of 3000 diapers.
Men's Ministry Breakfast
The next Men's Ministry Breakfast will be on Saturday, July 12, 2008, at 8:00 a.m. at Chris's Country Kitchen, because the all-purpose rooom will not be available. Men -- after you sign up on the bulletin board, why not invite another man to join us? This is a great time of fellowship. Would-be cooks or cooks helpers are welcome to take a turn -- no audition required. See or call Bob Kane if you have a question.

If you would like to receive "The Lutheran," our denomination's monthy news magazine, be sure to sign up on the narthex table. We are close to the required number of 50 households that must be signed up in order to make it happen.
More school kits are needed. If you can sew, please invest a bit of your time in sewing a few school kits. We need to have them (hopefully at least 175 of them) finished by the middle of August, so they will be ready to go in September.
Hospice breads are always needed. If you're willing to help, please bake a few loaves of banana, zucchini, or pumpkin bread, or anything of that sort; wrap each loaf in plastic wrap, then aluminum foil; label it with the kind of bread and "with nuts" or "without nuts," and pop it into the freezer of the refrigerator in the church kitchen. If you have questions, ask Georgia Hoffeditz.
Volunteer drivers are needed occasionally to transport Luther Ridge residents to and from medical appointments. If you'd like to help, please call Jean at the Fleck Center: 267-1665.
Touch-a-Life, a Faith in Action program of Lutheran Social Services of South Central PA, provides volunteer services to individuals and families with specific short-term needs. Volunteers are needed to provide local or long-distance transportation, run errands, or provide respite care for caregivers. If you are interested, or for more information, please call Carol Hughes at 264-5700.
Pastor Beth needs to know if someone in your family is hospitalized, so she can provide pastoral care. Don't assume someone else will tell her--you need to let her know.
Centering Prayer is now meeting the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month (check the calendar) at 7:00 p.m. in the Parlor. Anyone wishing to experience this form of meditative prayer is welcome. If you have questions, ask Judith Schwenk.
A Young Adult Sunday School Class will be piloted this fall. Young adults 19-30 years old (or thereabouts) are encouraged to become active in this gathering. Those interested in teaching, individually or as part of a team, please see Lynn Fry. Also please communicate ideas for topics of interest.
There is always a need for blood. Check the Bloodmobile Schedule for upcoming opportunities to donate.
Bud vases (the ones with a wide opening) are needed again. If you have some to recycle, please leave them above any of the coat racks.
Blood pressure screening takes place after church on the second Sunday of each month, unless otherwise announced in the Sunday bulletins.
