• WELCA Bible Study At The Manor Saturday, September 11, 2010 9:00 am
The Bible Study for the 2010-2011 season will kick off with breakfast on September 11. The Bible study this year is on "Jesus: Divine and Human" based on reflections from Matthew. This is an excellent way to get to know the residents of The Manor. Mark your calendars for the second Sunday of each month and join us as we spend time in learning and fellowship with each other and the residents. All members of the congregation are invited to attend these Bible studies. the signup sheet for the breakfast can be found on the bulletin board.

• Worship In the Woods Sunday, September 12, 2010 9:00 am
On Sunday, September 12th a fellowship breakfast at 9:00 a.m. with "Worship in the Woods" at 10:00 a.m. will take the place of our regular worship service. This will be held at Caledonia State Park. There will not be worship at St. Luke that day, so please plan on attending. Remember to sign up on the bulleting board for the breakfast part of this special day. If you need transportation, contact Linda Miller.

• Lutheran Home Care And Hospice Wellness Talk Thursday, September 16, 2010 10:00 am
The next wellness talk is scheduled for Thursday, September 16th at 10:00 a.m. at the Fleck Center. The topic is "Walking a Little Easier - Hip & Knee Replacement and What to Expect". As always, the program is free and open to anyone who wishes to attend.

• Kids For Christ (KFC) Sunday, September 19, 2010 11:30 am
KFC activities are open to all children first through fifth grade. Our first meeting is scheduled for Sunday, September 19th immediately after morning worship. This is a luncheon get-together for families and children to talk about plans for our upcoming year. A sign-up sheet is posted and you are welcome to invite friends.

Bingo will be held at the Manor on Sunday, September 19th from 1:30--3:30 p.m. We are in need of Bingo prizes and a few people to help.

• Celebration Day Flea Market Saturday, September 25, 2010 8:00 am
The 21st annual Celebration Day Flea Market, sponsored by the Auxiliary of Lutheran Social Services, will be held on the campus of Luther Ridge Saturday, Sept. 25th from 8 am to 2 pm. St. Luke will be collecting items for the Holiday Table starting in September. A signup sheet for those who would be willing to help at the table on Celebration Day is on the bulletin board. Baked goods and sweets are also needed for the food stands. Donations can be dropped off at The Inn on Friday, Sept. 25 or can be brought the day of the event.

• Installation of Family And Youth Educators Sunday, September 26, 2010 10:00 am
All Sunday school teachers, catechism mentors, and others involved in education at St. Luke will be installed for the coming year at our regular worship service on September 26th. All those involved, please make every effort to be present.

• LSS Women's Organization Fall Retreat Friday, October 29, 2010
The annual fall retreat will be held the last weekend in October at Camp Hebron. The theme is "Soaked in Christ" to be led by Janet Haack. The total cost for the retreat is $145.00 which includes five meals and two nights lodging in a motel-like room. You may also plan to go for just the days, not staying overnight, for $95.00 or go just on Saturday for $40.00. The deadline for registration is September 18. Registration forms can be found in the Women of the ELCA mail slot in the office.

• Family And Youth Ed Day Retreat Saturday, November 6, 2010 9:00 am
The St Luke Family and Youth Educational Ministry Committee invites you to join us at this year's day retreat scheduled for Saturday, November 6th from 9 am to 3 pm. Our theme for this year's retreat is "Healthy Relationships - An Ever Changing Balance". We are working in conjunction with Lutheran Counseling Services to develop this program geared toward youth and adults. The youth will meet separately from the adults with an LCS staff person who works regularly with young people. A sign up sheet will be posted by mid-September. Stay tuned for more details.

• Reception of New Members Sunday, November 14, 2010 10:00 am
Sunday, November 14th has been designated to receive new members into St. Luke. If you know someone who wishes to join our fellowship of faith, please direct them to Pastor Beth to make the necessary preparations. All of our members will want to be present that day for the fellowship reception following the service to offer personal words of welcome to our new sisters and brothers in Christ.

• Sunday School
Sunday School will return to our "academic schedule" a week later this September as we'll be sharing breakfast and worship together in the woods on September 12th. Our official Sunday School kick-off is scheduled for Sunday September 19th at 8:30 am. We'll share a continental breakfast, devotions and dismiss to classrooms by 9 am. Sunday school will then resume at 8:45 am each Sunday following the 19th.

• Centering Prayer
Centering Prayer meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month (check the calendar) at 7:00 p.m. in the Parlor. Anyone wishing to experience this form of meditative prayer is welcome. If you have questions, ask Judith Schwenk.

• Sam's Club At the YMCA
Sam's Club will be starting up again on Tuesday, October 5th at 6:30 p.m. at the Chambersburg Y. The St. Luke Congregation has done a great job at providing all the snacks for Sam's in past years. We are asking for snack donations once again the year. Please put the donated snacks in the purple Sam's container located under the Youth Bulletin Board. If anyone NEW is interested in volunteering at Sam's Club, please speak with a current Sam's volunteer: Cathy, Derek, and Devon Goodhart, Ann Marie Smith, Sarah Eyd, Kennie Sanders, and Vicki, Sean, and Skyler Miller.

• School Kits for Lutheran World Relief
The September Social Ministry project will be filling the school kit bags that were made over the summer for Lutheran World Relief. The list of items to be placed in the bags is available when you pick up the empty bags. Please take advantage of the back-to-school sales and fill a few bags!

• Campus Connection
Does your college or technical student have the same address as last year? We'd like to include everyone in this year's Campus Connection program. If you (or a member of your family) is attending college or a technical school this fall please share your (their) name and school address with the church office or Lynn Fry.

... if someone in your family is hospitalized, so she can provide pastoral care. Don't assume someone else will tell her--you need to let her know.

• Neighbors Are Connecting
More than 130 people participated in the first round of "Neighbors Connecting" gatherings. There are additional activities and opportunities being planned by the respective groups. What a great start to this new project! If you haven't yet tried it, you are always welcome at the next gathering of your group.

• Volunteer for Opening Devotions?
Sunday School Opening Devotions are held monthly through the academic year. The Family and Youth Ed Committee would like to expand the opportunity for youth and adults to provide this 10-minute devotion. Currently the Sunday School classes have taken the responsibility. We now invite families and groups of 2 or 3 individuals to volunteer to provide the devotions. Please see Anita Walter or Lynn Fry if you would like to volunteer or learn more. Resources are available. We have openings beginning in January 2010 and running through June 2010. Thank you for your prayerful consideration.

• Bingo At The Manor Organizers
We are looking for a few interested people who would be willing to take over bingo at the end of the year. Derek Goodhart and Ann Marie Smith have been organizing bingo for over 6 years and they will be resigning at the end of 2010. So if you are interested in sharing good Christian fellowship, helping to keep with our Mission Possible Plan, and enjoy spending time with our Luther Ridge Manor friends, please consider assisting with Bingo at the Manor.

• Volunteer Drivers Needed
Touch-a-Life, a Faith in Action program of Lutheran Social Services of South Central PA, provides volunteer services to individuals and families with specific short-term needs. Volunteers are needed to provide local or long-distance transportation, run errands, or provide respite care for caregivers. If you are interested, or for more information, please call Carol Hughes at 264-5700.

• Worship Assistants Needed
Volunteers are needed to help with worship services at The Inn at Luther Ridge. Worship services are held each Thursday afternoon at 1:15 p.m. and each Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. Volunteers light the candies, collect the offering, and on Sundays set up and assist with Communion. They may choose which service they would like to serve and are scheduled to help once every five or six weeks. Training is provided. If you are able to help or would like more information, please call Carol Hughes at 264-5700.

• Hospice Bereavement Bread
Hospice needs Bereavement Bread. Please bake any kind of bread, (pumpkin, blueberry, cranberry, etc.), wrap in plastic wrap and aluminum foil, and mark each loaf with the kind and if it contains nuts. Put the bread in the freezer in the kitchen. If you have any questions, please see Georgia Hoffeditz.
